Customs Clearance is the official process of obtaining permission from Indian customs authorities to import or export goods across international borders. Under the Customs Act, 1962, all shipments entering or leaving India must be cleared by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) before they can proceed to their final destination. This process ensures compliance with tariff regulations, duty payment, and verification that goods meet applicable standards under the FTDR Act and relevant sectoral regulations.
The clearance procedure involves submission of shipping documents, commercial invoices, bills of lading, and customs declarations through licensed customs brokers or Customs House Agents (CHAs). Goods are assessed for applicable customs duties, taxes, and any restrictions under the FTP 2023-28. The process culminates in either full clearance with duty payment or conditional release under specific trade schemes like EPCG, RoDTEP, or REX.
