What is FCC Compliance?

FCC Compliance refers to adherence to regulations established by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a critical requirement for exporting telecommunications equipment, wireless devices, and electronic products to the United States market. The FCC ensures that all electronic devices operate without causing harmful interference to licensed radio services and comply with technical standards outlined in Title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). For Indian exporters, FCC certification is a mandatory pre-market approval requirement, not a post-market certification, meaning products must be tested and certified before entering the US market.

Under FCC regulations, certain electronic devices fall into the category of intentional radiators (devices that emit radio frequency energy deliberately) or unintentional radiators (devices that emit RF energy as a byproduct of operation). Indian manufacturers exporting smartphones, laptops, wireless routers, IoT devices, medical equipment with wireless capabilities, and consumer electronics must obtain FCC approval through accredited testing laboratories. The compliance process involves electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, technical documentation submission, and device labeling with the FCC identifier.
