Advance Authorisation for Packing Material is a duty-free import scheme notified under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023-28 and administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). This authorization permits Indian exporters to import packing materials, including corrugated boxes, wooden crates, plastic films, foam sheets, labels, and adhesive materials, duty-free and tariff-free, provided they are used exclusively for packaging exported products.
Under this scheme, authorized importers can claim exemption from Basic Customs Duty (BCD), Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST), and other applicable levies on packing materials imported specifically for export purposes. The authorization is issued in the form of an Import Authorization certificate that permits duty-free import against fulfillment of prescribed export obligations.
