Advance Authorization is a duty-free import scheme administered by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) that permits Indian exporters to import raw materials, components, and consumables without payment of Basic Customs Duty, Additional Customs Duty, and Integrated GST for manufacture of products intended for export. Governed by Chapter 3 of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023-28, this scheme enables export-oriented units to reduce production costs and remain globally competitive.
Under the Advance Authorization regime, the importer receives an authorization certificate that specifies the quantity and value of duty-free imports permissible against a committed export obligation. The authorization is valid for a stipulated period, typically 12 months from the date of issue, during which both imports and exports must be completed according to the prescribed schedule.
