Udyam Registration is a unified, simplified online registration system for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India, introduced under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006. It replaced the earlier classification system of SSI (Small Scale Industries) and replaced the Entrepreneurs Memorandum (EM) Part I and II filings. This single-document registration provides enterprises with a unique identifier and official recognition from the Government of India.
The Udyam portal (udyamregistration.gov.in) is managed by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) and provides a paperless, free registration process. Once registered, enterprises receive a Udyam Registration Number (URN) that serves as proof of MSME status and is recognized across all government departments, banks, and regulatory bodies for availing MSME-specific benefits.
