IEM Part B refers to the second schedule under the Import-Export Memorandum (IEM) issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 (FTDR Act). It specifies restricted and prohibited items for import into India, along with conditions under which these items may be imported with necessary permits, licenses, or approvals from designated authorities.
IEM Part B is distinct from Part A (which covers export restrictions). Part B serves as a critical regulatory instrument for controlling the inflow of sensitive commodities, hazardous materials, endangered species, and items subject to international treaties. Importers must cross-reference every import consignment against the current IEM Part B to ensure compliance with applicable restrictions and obtain required permits before clearance from Indian Customs authorities under the Customs Act, 1962.
