The FSSAI Central License is a mandatory food safety authorization issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. This license permits food business operators to manufacture, process, distribute, and trade food products across multiple states in India. Unlike the State License, which restricts operations to a single state, the Central License enables inter-state commerce and is essential for entities with turnover exceeding Rs. 20 crore or those operating food processing units in multiple locations.
The FSSAI Central License serves as proof of compliance with food safety standards prescribed in the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011. It is issued for a validity period of five years and must be renewed before expiration. The license number itself acts as a unique identifier for the food business and is required on all packaging, invoices, and export documentation related to food products.
