A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is an official laboratory document that certifies the quality, purity, composition, and compliance of goods with predetermined specifications and applicable Indian or international standards. For export-import purposes under the purview of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 (FTDR Act), a COA serves as third-party verification that the product meets the required chemical, physical, microbiological, or nutritional parameters mandated by importing countries or international standards such as ISO, ASTM, or FSSAI regulations.
The COA is issued by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories)-accredited or recognized testing laboratories authorized under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. It contains detailed analytical results, test methodology references, batch/lot information, date of testing, validity period, and the authorized signatory's certification. For pharmaceutical, food, chemical, and agricultural exports, the COA is mandatory documentation required by overseas buyers, port authorities, and customs authorities to verify product authenticity and safety compliance.
